This project involves redesigning an astronomy book authored by Vladimir Surdin. The book, a compilation of university lectures, was recognized as one of the top 25 scientific and popular books in Russian in 2019, affirming its relevance and acknowledgment in the scientific community. However, the existing edition lacks alignment with contemporary aesthetic standards and is not reader-friendly.
My aims were to create a contemporary and functional design for the astronomy book, attracting a new audience and making the material more accessible. Tasks include revising the visual presentation, improving navigation, and adapting to modern aesthetic requirements.
I used various tools to achieve these goals and tasks: establishment of rhythm using text, photo, math formulas and the active use of raster textures. I redraw all infographic illustrations for improved readability and also integrating augmented reality technologies for an immersive experience. The new edition includes a dust cover which might be used as a poster.
